Supreme Court Justice Candidate Campaigns in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) — A Wisconsin judge running for Supreme Court Justice is campaigning in Western Wisconsin.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet spoke to local elected officials and community members at the Annual Eau Claire County Democrats Potluck Picnic.

The event was held last night at the Pine Pavilion in Carson Park.
Judge Dallet is seeking the seat held by Justice Michael Gableman.
She says there needs to be fair and independent courts and she’s running to return the courts to be non-partisan.

She says, “We shouldn’t be running as politicians. Judges are not politicians, justices are not politicians, but we should be fair and independent and give everyone who steps in front of us a fair shake.”

Dallet’s opponent, Madison attorney Tim Burns was expected to attend, but his office says he was out of state for a case.
In a statement he says, “For the past 40 years, right-wing conservative judges have been chipping away at the laws that protected our democracy and our middle-class economy. When courts are fair and impartial, more than the wealthy get ahead and more than massive corporations flourish.”
